Each year of Chevelles from 1964 through 1972 had unique oddities associated with them.

* First model year of production.

* The only model year in the U.S. with the year indicated as the first digit of the VIN such as 45867K123456.

* Malibu SS was it's own series, not an optional upgrade to the Malibu.

* Malibu SS could be ordered with any available engine, L6 or V8.

* Malibu SS came standard with bucket seats and gauges but tachometer was optional when a V8 was ordered.

* Malibu SS came standard with full wheel covers with an "SS" emblem in the center. Other wheel covers were an option.

* A center console was not an option in any series but if a Malibu SS was ordered with either the optional Powerglide or 4-speed, a console was included.

* While bucket seats were not an option as such, several colors of bucket seats were available in the sedan pickup series but only as a trim option, not a bucket seat option.

* Goldwood Yellow paint was only available with the Malibu SS.

* Several body styles were built at the Euclid, OH. Fisher Body plant and shipped to several final assembly plants for completion. These can be identified by the Fisher Body plant identification of "EP" on the Fisher Body Number plate. The final assembly plant is typically a single letter below or after the paint code such as "A" for Atlanta, "B" for Baltimore, and "K" for Kansas City.

* Front seat belts were optional under RPO A37 until they became standard equipment in February. The now standard seat belts could be deleted under RPO A62.

* The 327 engine (in two horsepower versions) were available in March and June.

* 283 V8 equipped Chevelles have a small "V" emblem on the front fenders; 327 V8 equipped Chevelles have a "crossed flags" emblem, the base L6 engine had no emblems while the optional L6 had an engine size designation emblem.

* The 2-door station wagon was offered only in the base Chevelle 300 series.

* The only year a "CHEVELLE" nameplate emblem is found on the sedan pickup.
