Photos presented are not to show what is correct or what is incorrect. Rather, these are offered for viewing pleasure and if you can pick up a tip or two, all the better. The L35 396/325hp V8 was the base engine when ordering an SS 396 sport coupe or convertible. This engine was also optional on both the standard and Custom series El Camino.
As part of the 396 engine several pieces were chrome plated; valve covers,
air cleaner lid, oil filler cap, and (where applicable) the oil breather
cap. The positive ventilation system used only the oil breather cap
and a PCV valve arrangement (front of carburetor to driver side valve
cover) for emissions control.
Note 'dent' on driver side valve cover. The purpose of this was to clear
the power brake booster but even 1967 Chevelles without power brakes
got the same valve cover. This cover was unique to the 1967 model year.
Generator (alternator) is not mounted in accordance with the
Assembly Instruction Manual. Top brace should be behind generator
and adjustment bolt should be inserted from the back side. See
Generator page for correct
mounting.
